Celebrating 50 Years of Empowering Minds
In 1958, a yearbook salesman and father of three, named John David Baker, noticed a small article about machines called “computers” in the local newspaper. With the notion that schools would eventually have to teach kids how to use computers, he approached Dr. Eugene Smith at Wayne State University to write the Company’s first how to use a computer book. Dr. Smith agreed to write the activities on the condition that his own math book, Retrievomath, also be published. Both of these products were very successful.
From these humble beginnings 50 years ago, the Company has evolved from two products to more than 250 titles in 2008. It has expanded from supplemental materials to offering complete curriculum for all ages and abilities. And its reach has grown from one country to availability in more than 50 countries around the world. |
