Parents Make A
Big Difference
Improve Reading Skills May, 2005, by The Critical Thinking Co.™ Staff

There was a period of time in US history
when a fourth grade education was as much
as the average person received before moving
into the work force. Though we now graduate
a much higher percentage of students from
high school, many of those still only read
at a fourth grade level. There are several
schools of thought as to why this is, but
there is no reason to accept it.
Many parents have given up on the public
school system and enrolled their children
at great expense in private schools with
better track records. Those that cannot
afford private schools are often left in
the lurch. The Critical
Thinking Co. provides products to help parents and educators
make a difference in students' educations
no matter what schools they attend.
Parents who take an active interest in
their childrens' educations often have
children who perform far above state requirements.
They have realized that relying on ailing
institutions leaves their children behind.
The Critical
Thinking Co. products do more than
just encourage students to read. They encourage
students to think about what they are reading,
to analyze, and to relate what they have
learned to other subjects.
A student who is encouraged to question
what he or she reads and to seek answers
to those questions will be a student who
wants to read. Logic, reason, and analysis
are not just for science classes. The Critical
Thinking Co. products are applied to math,
science, history, literature, and to the
social sciences as well. Improved reading
skills translate to improved learning skills.
