  1. We love Critical Thinking!
We love Critical Thinking! We use Editor in Chief and Mind Benders in our homeschooling. My son loves finding the corrections in Editor in Chief, and I love how quickly he picks up grammatical concepts. Customer service is excellent too!

Do your kids like to do their grammar lessons? Usually grammar lessons here are met with groans and kids dragging their feet to the table. Well, that all changed a few weeks ago. I was worried that the book would be dull and boring, but I was wrong. Thank goodness. My son LOVED the stories in the book. He read about various animals and different places in the world. He loves anything to do with nature, so the subject matter was a big hit for him. He even learned some new stuff about some animals, which is really good. My son has really enjoyed working in this book. The topics covered in each lesson have held his interest. He hasn't complained once when asked to do the work. We are looking forward to using Level 2 next year!

My son had no idea how much fun grammar could be. Honestly, he hated it. Until we received Editor in Chief Level 1 from The Critical Thinking Co. It certainly helped too that my son loves the idea of being ā€œin chargeā€ so once he fully understood the meaning of Editor in Chief ā€“ that really peaked his interest! We really enjoyed the Editor in Chief Level 1. It was so much more than we could have hoped for and it really challenged the both of us. There was much that I learned right along with my son. And I always love materials that help him to see that learning is a lifelong (and fun!) thing.

The lessons are short and simple but require focus and detail. My daughter has a habit of rushing through things so doing each of these lessons has required her to slow down for a few minutes, take her time, read the directions, and find all the mistakes. This has been a good addition to our school curriculum. Itā€™s quick, and semi-puzzle like in that my daughter has to ā€œhuntā€ for the mistakes. My daughter likes puzzles so coming at these paragraphs as little puzzles is a game changer in our homeschool room.

The book is big! It wasnā€™t the little, tiny paperback workbook that I was expecting at all! As I flipped through the pages I really liked the size of the font. It wasnā€™t too tiny. It made reading the stories a lot easier on my eyes, and I immediately took note that my sensory learners would like that also. It worked perfectly as new lessons for my younger children, and a great refresher course for my older students. It would also work perfect as a remedial class. For those who are concerned that they wonā€™t be able to find the errors themselves, donā€™t worry! A complete teacherā€™s guide is located in the back of the book.

There is a lot of variety in the passages. They are short, and worked well for my son. The non-fiction passages actually worked to spur on further discussions a lot of times, so that was really nice! There is the right amount of repetition for retention, but not so much that it's obnoxious. Another thing I really like about this workbook is that it lists the number of mistakes to be corrected in numbered circles, and the type of mistake that needs to be corrected. The book is on grade point, as far as I'm concerned, and is a useful tool to add to your Language Arts arsenal.

We didn't know that grammar could actually be fun until we received Editor in Chief Level 1. Suddenly, when you are promoted to ā€œEditor in Chief,ā€ grammar becomes a very important work. It becomes a task with purpose. My son would read a short passage, which also contained a picture/photo and a caption, and he would then correct the passage by using the 'clues' on the right. Itā€™s like detective work, which really appealed to my son. I liked that the lessons were very clear, short, and my son could really work independently. If you ask my son for his thoughts on this book, he will tell you itā€™s one of the most fun grammar books heā€™s ever used.
