Description & Features

This fun, highly-effective software teaches students in Grades 9-12 grammar, punctuation, spelling, capitalization, and critical reading in a standards-based thinking approach instead of the usual drill and practice found in competing products.  Students begin with an easy-to-understand lesson followed by an activity that require students to carefully analyze and edit stories, letters, or articles that contain mechanical errors.  This effective method allows students to gain mastery over concepts that will translate into their own writing.

The books and software both use the same stories, errors, and rules. The difference is in the way students edit the stories.

Students identify and click on errors in each story. Then they select the category and specific rule that applies to each error, prompting the software to correct the error. Edit all 33 stories and become the Editor in Chief! On-screen instructions, hints, rules, and answers allow students to work, learn, and succeed independently.

"A Homeschool Favorite" - The LINK Home School News
"A Parent-Recommended Home School Resource" - Creative Home Schooling For Gifted Children
"When my daughter was 13, I began using the Editor in Chief® series as part of our homeschool curriculum. She enjoyed the challenge of looking for errors even if at times she became frustrated that she missed a few--only to go back and look harder until she found them! These skills have helped her to express her thoughts well throughout high school and college. Now 20, she was approached by the dean of students at her university and asked if she would be interested in being the senior editor for the school newspaper! She immediately jumped at the chance! This is a paid position complete with an office, a budget, photographers, writers, layouts, printers, etc. She now has truly become an 'Editor in Chief.' Thank you!" - Lisa-Jean , New Jersey
"I find this program easy-to-use and it works well with my students. The kids pick up on the concepts quickly and really enjoy the stories. The on-screen hints are a good way to keep the kids working without getting frustrated!
I was also pleasantly surprised at how well this program works with my ESL class." - Sam , Aptos, CA
"A few months ago, my daughter came home yakking about a grammar software program she'd done in school. I said with disbelief, 'You liked doing grammar?' She said, 'I really liked doing Editor In Chief!' The bottom line for her was that she enjoyed critiquing other people's writing because it wasn't so personal as editing her own.
She now comes home with her own specific grammar questions about compounds and clauses and things she could have cared less about in the past. I'm amazed! It has definitely helped her writing because now she has more of a critical eye for her own mistakes.
I told her teacher, 'I don't know exactly how this Editor In Chief works, but you've sure got my kid hooked--on grammar, of all things!'" - Paula , Cary, NC
"Assesses how much grammar my students have learned. If they don't know it, they will learn it with this program." - Cathy Duffy, Christian Home Educators' Curriculum Manual, Greensboro, NC
"The content is impeccable.…Your students will not be able to simply guess at answers or rely on gut instincts. They must learn and understand the rules of grammar." - LearningWare
"Fills in the areas that need to be mastered in order to progress grade levels in language arts. It leads and monitors students so they can remediate by themselves." - Christian, Harahan, LA
