Description & Features

This book is a complete curriculum for children of age 3. This colorful, 240-page book uses engaging activities and easy-to-follow explanations and examples to teach the concepts of counting, adding, and subtracting using the numbers 1 – 5.  It also teaches geometric shapes, colors, sequencing, classification, and visual tracking.  It is both a textbook and workbook that teaches all of the math skills children are expected to know entering kindergarten—and several concepts normally taught in kindergarten.

The activities spiral slowly, allowing students to become comfortable with concepts, but also challenging them to continue building their problem-solving skills.  This book teaches more than mathematical concepts; it teaches mathematical reasoning, so students learn to devise different strategies to solve problems.  It is written to the standards of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

"I just wanted to say that my 3-year-old daughter and I have just completed Mathematical Reasoning Beginning 1 and LOVED it. Nearly every session, I had to limit how many pages she completed! Math has fast become one of her favorite subjects to play with, and I couldn't be more proud after seeing her work day after day until the whole book was done." - Jessica L., Plano, Illinois
"My son Loves using the Mathematical Reasoning™ series. He was so disappointed when he finished his first book. When we got the next one in the mail he wanted to start right away. Its bright colors and uncluttered pages are perfect for him! When he finishes the actual questions, he likes to doodle on the colorful pages, making faces and creatures out of the shapes. So it's more than just math to him." - Karen, PA
"As a teacher I like the problem solving activities as these could be used over again or with several students in the classroom." - IParenting Reviewer
"Mathematical Reasoning presents math in a way that makes it not only simple to learn, but also practical to apply to everyday circumstance (obviously making math more meaningful to him)." - Katherine, Mississippi
"My son hated math. I saw your curriculum and gave it a try. Wow, what a great fit for my son! Your Mathematical Reasoning curriculum gave him a way to learn math that made sense to him. Thank you!" - Amy, Ontario, Canada
"For the money, the books are excellent buys and worthy supplements to any childhood students education." - Maxine, Teaching Children Mathematics published by NCTM
"As a math instructor, I am so happy that it looks like I may have a math-brain in my family after all! He asks to do his math school work (Mathematical Reasoning book) every day!" - Janelle, Math Teacher & Parent
"We have truly enjoyed using this book. We started out by just using it once a week but my daughter begged for more! How can I turn down a child begging for Math!?! We are now using it daily and I can see the improvement in her math." - Jacquelin, Virginia
"I really like that there is a lot of life application, logic and critical thinking sprinkled throughout the book. Lessons do not appear overwhelming or take hours to complete. In fact, most pages take just a few minutes to complete. There is a lot of colorful visual appeal as well, without appearing too childish for these upper elementary kids." - Marcy, Kentucky
"It has been so good for her because it requires her to think! Sometimes she would get frustrated, but the material was engaging and it kept her motivated to try and figure it out." - Suzie, Illinois
"The fun thing about Mathematical Reasoning™ is that every page is a little different. No rote facts or boredom here! Mix that in with a few game-like activities and lots of colors and pictures, and they had my kiddo hooked." - Michele, Virginia
"This is a gorgeous book, inside and out - visually appealing and colorful; it makes getting kids interested in the book simple. May I repeat - simple." - Becky, Texas
"I don’t know about you, but I really like the idea that my child might learn how to think critically while also doing her math or language arts!" - Kate, California
"When my daughter turned 3, we began Mathematical Reasoning™ Beginning and finished it in less than two months! I was very pleased on how advanced it was toward the end of the book. She enjoyed the color and pictures and learned a lot of new concepts that really put her at a higher level in math. Now she is starting regular kindergarten math and we already need to skip most of the material since she understood it from her Mathematical Reasoning™ book! I plan on purchasing more math books for next summer!!! Definitely a success for her! Thank you!" - Karin, New York
"Our family loves your Mathematical Reasoning™ series. My son has completed Levels E and F. As a former public school teacher and now a homeschool mom, I have looked at many math curriculums and yours is by far the best I have seen and used. I am so glad you are continuing this series and cant wait to see Level G." - Park, Texas
"If you are serious about your child's mathematical development, then you need to add critical thinking and analogical thinking to your curriculum. These books are a great addition for any math curriculum and help your child develop important problem-solving and critical thinking skills." - Kari, Curriculum Choice
"We use The Critical Thinking Co. products as part of our homeschool curriculum. The Mathematical Reasoning™ Level A book has been a wonderful tool. The instructions are easy enough for my kindergartner to read. My son loves math now!" - Elisha, South Dakota
"Mathematical Reasoning™ books are easy to follow and allow kids to jump around... My sons teacher loved it, as well, saying the math concepts are age appropriate for him." - IParenting Media Reviewer
"We are completing Mathematical Reasoning™ Beginning 1. My son recently turned 4, and this is by far the best math program that I have found for preschoolers. We go over a few pages every night before we do our bedtime reading. I plan to order the next book in a few weeks." - Jamie, via Facebook
