Description and Features

Bridges the gap between computation and mathematical reasoning for higher grades and top test scores.

Description and Features

Forget boring math lessons and dreaded drill sheets.  This fun, colorful 352-page book uses engaging lessons with easy-to-follow explanations, examples, and charts to make first grade mathematical concepts easy to understand.  It can be used as a textbook or a comprehensive workbook with your textbook to teach the math skills and concepts that students are expected to know in first grade—and several concepts normally taught in second grade.  This book emphasizes problem-solving and computation to build for success in higher-level math and math assessments.

Every lesson is followed with a variety of fun, colorful activities to ensure concept mastery.  The lessons and activities spiral slowly, allowing students to become comfortable with concepts, but also challenging them to continue building their problem-solving skills.  This book teaches more than mathematical concepts; it teaches mathematical reasoning, so students learn to devise different strategies to solve a wide variety of math problems.  It is written to the standards of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

I really love your Mathematical Reasoning books

I really love your Mathematical Reasoning books. My son is behind in math and we are using them to get him up to grade level. They are very comprehensive but not overwhelming and very easy to use. I use them with my daughter as well. We've tried other math curriculum but this is the best we have used by far.

I like it, but needs wide width writing lines

I was attracted to the activities in the book, and I am pleased with them. My son loves the logic problems, and doing the dot to dot activities in conjunction with the math makes the activity more interesting. I like the colored pictures and progression of topics. At the same time, it would be good to include actual wide width writing lines for students who are still working on their printing of numbers so that their numbers and words are not all over the place.

I used the Mathematical Reasoning® books for all four of my children starting at age three. These books are practical and easy to use. The children easily grasped object-to-number ratio, number recognition, addition, subtraction and even algebraic concepts at a very young age. I highly recommend Mathematical Reasoning®!

My son hated math. I saw your curriculum and gave it a try. Wow, what a great fit for my son! Your Mathematical Reasoning curriculum gave him a way to learn math that made sense to him. Thank you!

Mathematical Reasoning presents math in a way that makes it not only simple to learn, but also practical to apply to everyday circumstance (obviously making math more meaningful to him).

As a teacher I like the problem solving activities as these could be used over again or with several students in the classroom.

My daughter took to it instantly. I was impressed with Critical Thinking Co.'s math vocabulary and how they applied it to this level.

We have truly enjoyed using this book. We started out by just using it once a week but my daughter begged for more! How can I turn down a child begging for Math!?! We are now using it daily and I can see the improvement in her math.

As a math instructor, I am so happy that it looks like I may have a math-brain in my family after all! He asks to do his math school work (Mathematical Reasoning book) every day!
