Description and Features

Bridges the gap between computation and mathematical reasoning for higher grades and top test scores.

Description and Features

This book is a complete curriculum for children of age 4. This colorful, 288-page book uses engaging activities and easy-to-follow explanations and examples to teach the concepts of counting, adding, and subtracting using the numbers 0 – 15. It also teaches geometric shapes, colors, sequencing, classification, and visual tracking. It is both a textbook and workbook that teaches all of the math skills children are expected to know entering kindergarten—and several concepts normally taught in kindergarten and first grade.

The activities spiral slowly, allowing students to become comfortable with concepts, but also challenging them to continue building their problem-solving skills.  This book teaches more than mathematical concepts; it teaches mathematical reasoning, so students learn to devise different strategies to solve problems.  It is written to the standards of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

An excellent addition to the full curriculum in this book is our revolutionary Smart Abacus™ app.  Using the Smart Abacus™ app on your phone, tablet, or computer enables students to solve the addition and subtraction problems in this book using a fun, step-by-step, hands-on method.  This app includes 5 addition lessons (levels) and 5 subtraction lessons (levels) along with 200 practice problems.  It also simplifies the concept of regrouping (borrowing and carrying), so that this concept—normally taught in 2nd grade—can be taught to early learners.  To learn more about the Smart Abacus™, click here.

Being a typical boy, my 4 year old son wasn't interested in sitting down to do school work until we started working with Mathematical Reasoning™ Beginning 2. He seemed captivated by the fact that he could do it himself, given that there was not a whole lot of number writing in the beginning, but more drawing lines and basic shapes, which he could do. You should have seen his face at the end of the year when he had finished the whole book! Thanks!

I used the Mathematical Reasoning® books for all four of my children starting at age three. These books are practical and easy to use. The children easily grasped object-to-number ratio, number recognition, addition, subtraction and even algebraic concepts at a very young age. I highly recommend Mathematical Reasoning®!

My son is really enjoying this workbook! We have tried a few others, and he didn't really take to them. Mathematical Reasoning however, is a hit!

Mathematical Reasoning™ conveys fairly sophisticated concepts in easily understood ways. For example, by page 17, my four-year-old was differentiating between odd and even numbers.

Mathematical Reasoning presents math in a way that makes it not only simple to learn, but also practical to apply to everyday circumstance (obviously making math more meaningful to him).

As a teacher I like the problem solving activities as these could be used over again or with several students in the classroom.

It was just enough to keep his attention without being overwhelmed. I will be using this for sure with him for the rest of the year since he really enjoyed it!

As a math instructor, I am so happy that it looks like I may have a math-brain in my family after all! He asks to do his math school work (Mathematical Reasoning book) every day!
